Åland’s tourispass for ferries

The Tourist Pass for Åland’s inter-island ferries was launched this spring (2025). Ålandstrafiken’s Tourist Pass is specifically designed for travelers exploring the archipelago by car (maximum height 2.1 m, no trailer).

The card offers unlimited travel on the paid ferries to and from Åland’s outer archipelago for nine consecutive days from the date of purchase. If you’re planning to visit several of Åland’s island municipalities or drive so called Åland Ring Road, the tourist pass is a perfect choice.

Where and How to Buy the Tourist Pass

You can purchase the pass through Ålandstrafiken’s webshop or at their office in Mariehamn.

If you’re starting your journey from the Finnish mainland or Sweden, you naturally need to purchase the card online, so that it’s valid already on your outbound trip.

• Price: €60 for a maximum 2.1 m-high car. 
• The pass is vehicle specific.

What the Pass Includes

• Unlimited travel on both booked and unbooked routes on all paid ferries to and from the outer archipelago of Åland. (However, not valid for cross-transit.journeys from mainland Finland to Åland’s main island or vice versa, without an overnight stay on the islands).
• Digital, vehicle‑specific: the car’s license plate number must match the pass and cannot be changed during the nine‑day period .
• The pass is linked to your Ålandstrafiken customer account and is not personal— another driver may use the car.

Limitations & Conditions

• It does not allow trailers or caravans—only a single passenger car .
• You cannot switch vehicles or update the plate number during validity .
• Not valid for through‑passage trips (i.e., those not terminating in the archipelago) 
• It’s digital and QR-based—you must present the QR code when boarding. On non-bookable lines (like the Föglö route), you can also print it and display it on your dashboard.
• You can find the QR code by clicking on your name when logged into Ålandstrafiken’s booking system (see image below).

Refund & Cancellation Policy

• As a transport service, the pass is non-refundable per Finnish distance-selling law. Once purchased, you cannot cancel or get a refund .

How to register and book Åland ferries

The page is in Swedish, but you can use google translate by clicking the globe-symbol on top of the page. 

First you need to register. Go to the book page from the top right on the page (the ferry-symbol).

Once you are on the book page, you can register (top right corner). After that, you can log in from this same place. Here you can also change the anguage to english.

How to buy the Tourist Pass

You can buy the tourit pass from “My cards”, choose “Buy tourist card” (see pictures below).

Click the blue arrow, add your vehicle and pay for the pass. It’s ready for use straight away!

Note, that the nine days validity time starts from the day you purchase the pass, so don’t buy in beforehand!

How to make ferry reservations

Now we can start looking for ferries. First you have to know, where you are leaving from and where you want to go. Let’s say, you are in Långnäs and want to go to Kökar.

Choose from the dropdown list your From and To ports and the date, click search, and the system will show you the ferries on that day.

On this page you have to add you vehicle. Add it from the top, where there is 1 x passenger (if there’s more passengers, add them all) and no vehicle, click change on the right side of the vehicle and choose, which type of vehicle you have.

If you registered a car and you have logged in, the car will show here and you just choose it.

Then choose, which ferry you want to take and click it. Click continue, check all the details are correct, and click continue again.

This way you can also check timetables for different days!

When you have made your booking, you are ready to drive to the ferry.

You can also board the ferries without a prior reservation. In that case, drive to the lane at the harbor marked “Unbooked.” During the peak summer season, the ferries are often full, so it’s advisable to book your trip in advance.
